Default fg gt motor price

hi just wondering what peoples thoughts are on a 315kw engine transplant in to a ba fairlane, price for motor is 7500 and has round 54000 klms on it, do u think this is reasonable and what problems do you think im likely to encounter with transplant, not sure if i need bulge bonnet or not.

im no expert on the subject, more learned on pre computer stuff hahaha
but id say youll need computer and gearbox that came with it, find out whether or not the computer will suit that body and electrics etc??
then youll need a bonnet with a bulge id say cause of the manifold clearance or lack thereof...
theres probably more i dont know about too, dont let that turn you off doing it it might not be as hard as it seems

You should get more power supercharging/intercooling your 3V 8... should work out cheaper too.. not to mention no hassle of registering your ride with the RTA with a new engine..

UNLESS you are absolutely fixed on doing something as unique as the 4valve GT engine in a Fairlane? ive thought of something like that awhile ago..

Could you just change the heads, intake and ECU? Are the bottom ends the same?

Maybe look at an ex XR8 engine, as soon as it has FPV people ask for more cash. The SC route could be good, there are a few who have done it with pretty good results.

To answer the price question, I think FTG on this site usually sell them for around $6500 (FPV BOSS engines)...advertised price anyway.

Contemplated supercharging option but would like to start with 315kw option and build on that at a later date, thanks for replies

If you have any intention of going forced induction stay away from 302 and 315 Kw motors, The compression is to high. If this is the case look for a good 290.. Perhaps even a FG XR8.
If you want to stay NA then 302 or 315 is OK.

I was under impression the only difference between the 290kw and 315kw was the tune, internals are the same??????

Higher comp pistons, bigger cams for both, 315 in addition got different intake plenum with dual throttle body, windage tray and higher redline.

The GS 302 and the GT315 were the same.

The FG 290 is different from the FG 315, as were the BF 302 and BA-BF 290.

Edit: Oh, and the 260 was different again.

i would`nt do it , not enough gain for the money and effort, not trying to burst your bubble, but you still end up with a second hand motor and not massively faster than what you have, allthough it would be nippy
would i..... look at rebuilding original yes
" ......look at putting a blower on original possibly
" ......look at putting a new crate motor possibly
just my opinion , good luck whichever way you go.

All FPV Boss motors have higher compression ratios than 260 and 220 motors due to different pistons, it is more than just the heads.
