Recently I have come up with the idea of building a custom air compressor,
What i was thinking is to use a v8 and then use 4 cylinders for power and the other 4 to make compressed air. I have been doing research and people have done it with v8s and volkswagen flat 4. Just wanted to see the ideas and any tips Cheers |

yeah tryed that a few years ago with my 4x4 at the time, this worked to produce the air as expected but heat was a problem as was fuel in the line because it was a carb motor,i think if were using an efi motor and stop the injector on that cyl it might work ok. Iam asuming you are talking about the air line out of the plug holes, hope this helps

You are going to use the V8 for a compressor using 4 cylinders for drive/power? How are you going to avoid getting fuel in the compressed air? That could be a disaster, compressing a fuel air mix. And if it is pumped into a holding tank, you will be building a bomb.

To use same motor ?? You would have to separate inlet to carb on compressor cylinders.. We used to have a valve that fitted on plug which pumped up tractor tyres.. Not much fuel was drawn through as air would enter via valve on screw in device.. I think the cam / valve timing would need to be different to use as compressor using whole engine with another 4 cylinder to power it.. At our old butter factory we had two v10 compressors.. They MAY have been for air conditioning ??

This is the VW kit I was talking about , you use a twin port motor and then put this kit in, then hey presto you got yourself a 58cfm@100psi http://vwparts.aircooled.net/Volks-A...R3S-p/dr3s.htm
