Hello fellow forum members! I would like to take the opportunity to say a special thank you to Rob Herrod, owner and director of Herrod Motorsport.
On the 23rd of December I drove my FG MK2 GS Ute to get some petrol to go to the beach. When I returned home with a full tank of gas, my GS wouldn’t start, and as a result she got pushed into the garage at home and left overnight. She started the next morning so I took her for a drive and tried to replicate the previous days driving conditions, took it home and tried restarting her and she started so I thought you beauty, nothing is wrong with her. The 26th of December was the next time I drove the GS and it was a 70km trip to my sister in-laws place and upon pulling up at her driveway, I could hear a buzzing noise in the rear of the cabin. I killed the ignition and went inside for a few hours. Came outside to take my brother in-law for a drive and she wouldn’t start. Same as 2 days earlier, the engine would crank but not fire up. At 8pm a tow truck was called to arrange a 70-80km tow back to my place. My brother in-law said let’s try one last time with him banging his fist on the fuel tank while I try starting the car. She started and was limped back to my place. I logged onto Ford Forums at 10:50pm on Boxing Day to have a read as to what may be wrong with my pride and joy. I was reading a thread when I saw a post made by Herrod Motorsport (Rob Herrod), and saw that he was online. I sent Rob a personal message (PM) at 11pm on Boxing Day night not expecting a reply but little did I know that “Santa Claus” was about to deliver in a big way. Rob replied and we exchanged a few PM’s and he said he would call me the next morning. Mr Herrod rang me the very next morning and discussed my problem from which he came to the conclusion that it sounded like my fuel pump had failed. He asked if I would like him to go to his workshop (which is closed until the 7th of January) to see if he had a spare pump he could courier to me. Rob rang me from his workshop and told me the good news that he had a brand new pump packaged and ready to post up to me. Mr Herrod arranged for delivery from Melbourne to Sydney and the pump arrived at my door in less than 24 hours. I was resigned to the fact my car wouldn’t be running until the New Year and that it was Christmas and no-one works between the Christmas and New Year break, especially in the car/workshop industry. Rob Herrod of Herrod Motorsport went to a HUGE effort to assist me and he went beyond his call of duty and for that I wish to say thank you Rob. You are a credit to the motorsport and car enthusiast industry Rob Herrod! The Christmas cheer is well and truly alive with acts of kindness like this one. I am proud to say that my car has Herrod Motorsport “lifeblood”. After a lot of thread mining with the “search” field on Ford Forums, I was able to digest as much information as I could about the job that lay ahead with replacing the fuel pump. Oh man I hope it’s the fuel pump because it looked like a horrible job to do without a hoist. My mobile mechanic, who is a mate of mine as well, came over and started the job at 9:20am today. An axle stand, removal of the tank straps, fuel supply lines and an hour and 30 minutes later, the GS was back on all fours having her first good taste of BP Ultimate in a few days. It was a great feeling hearing the 5 litre Supercharged Miami fire up. I’m going to close this post by saying that Ford Forums is a great resource for any Ford owner and the members should be proud of the majority of the information that is held on this site. A special mention to CAT600 (Daniel), while thread mining I came across many threads with issues like mine and you are always there to offer a wealth of knowledge and experience to help (take note of the time of the evening that CAT600 has replied): http://www.fordforums.com.au/showthread.php?t=11384451 Also, Watejs06 replied to my PM regarding his fuel pump issues that he had experienced recently with his Supercharged FG Ute and helped me, a complete stranger, by explaining the work required to remove the fuel pump from an FG Ute. And CANFRY, you’ve walked the same path with your mods to your GT and thank you for sharing your journey. Your recent issues at the track with your fuel pump helped me in diagnosing my own problem. Thanks for sharing mate. Anyway guys, thank you for reading and I hope that I didn’t bore you all too much with the detail of my story. Kind regards, Daniel “A fellow blue-blooded Ford nut” P.S. I hope that the moderators don’t mind me posting this in the “FPV 5.0 Boss S/C Powered Falcons” and “The Pub” section of the forum.

Thanks buddy. It was a good old-fashioned Christmas miracle made possible by some great people. If anyone needs to know how to remove an AU-FG Ute fuel pump without a hoist, I'm more than happy to help.

Have had the lads there look after me before for a small job. I was made to feel very welcome even though I wasn't in there getting a super car getting built, and they even looked after me for a very good price AND the reasonable size job was done while I waited.
I will definitely be going back, even though I'm over 40km away! |

Yeah great stuff there. Well done to all.
So is it fairly common to have pump failures on the sedans also? Is this just for tuned cars or are stockies also experiencing failures??

Stories like these make me want to contact Herrod Motorsport to see if I can get some goodies for my car. Do they do anything for non-turbo FG XR6 models?
EDIT: yes they do. http://www.herrodmotorsport.com.au/H...5/Default.aspx Anybody get one of these packages? |

I had a Herrod exhaust on my N/A BA XR6 for quite a while....
By far the best exhaust on the market for these cars in my opinion. I'm sure the FG kit would be top shelf also !

Fuel pumps don't give much trouble , I have seen them go with very low Kms and then others last the life of the car. The important thing to remember is that when you make more power you need to upgrade the pump to suit. We make in house our own replacement fuel pump modules using a 400 litre wabro pump that is a direct bolt in that we source through the USA . Just remove the OE module and drop our module in . No wiring changes needed. Due to spending a lot of the time in the USA and gaining the respect from a lot of the big tuners and manufacturers in the USA keeps us at the forefront of new and exiting products for the Australian market .
SCT is the most respected tuning company in the USA and has opened a lot of doors and contacts for us that is filtered back through products that we release. Including our fuel pumps . The fuel pump in the vehicle in this thread did not fail because it had been tuned .

When the fuel pump in my xr8 failed apparently the warrenty company didn't even blink at the repairs, as they said it was quite common for the fg pumps to fail.
But back on topic, good to see people do still care about the normal enthusiasts, so many workshops seem to only care about the guys spending up large, and ignore the average guy. |

I scored a set of second hand AU2 premium discs from Mr Herrod's workshop (courtesy of John, IIRC) - while (just) undersized, they were not cracked and did the job of stopping us on our return journey from Melbourne to Canberra. They wouldn't take any payment for them, but I ended up convincing them to buy the boys a case which I paid for!
