Interesting old Falcon reciepts 1962 from my Grandpa

Thought these might be of interest! My Grandpa worked at Ford Geelong back in the good old days! Started in the 30's!

Anyway, I have some of his old paperwork and found these beauties! Ford employee discount pricing etc. (the bit you cant see in the middle is the auto transmission option)





Here is is order for a 1962 Falcon Deluxe (I have the original handbook for this exact car somewhere around too, but not the car...)

Then it had a problem at accersories delivery! haha! Wonder if Ford coughed up for the damage!

Heres another old reciept for a Chev Tourer bought in 1936! He traded in a Morris Oxford, whatever that is!

Good to see this type of information from the past years.

With knowing prices of the earlier years it good to campare them with current prices.

As per the costing sheet the price of a new Deluxe Falcon in 1962 was 1199 pounds($2398), the price of petrol around 3 cents/ltr and the average wage was $49 per week.

1973 a Falcon 500 was about $3,300(the base price of my first new falcon), the price of petrol was 11 -12 cents ltr and the average wage was around $102 per week.

From these figures it is easy to work out if we are better or worse off today.

Great thread this, thanks ED, keep the documents safe. Warrenk, I can't believe how much more affordable cars are these days - on price alone! But everything else has gone up in price as well.
If I drive ~20,000km per year, at $1.50 a litre I pay $3600 at the pump, approx. 3.6% of my gross.
ED's Grandpa would have paid $72 dollars a year. About 2.8% of his gross.
Ah, if only we had Grandpa's price of fuel today, and the cars we drive. Not a big difference, but everything else, especially the essentials, electricity and water and
I must fossick through Mum and Dad's bits, see if they have receipts for their new XC Falcon Wagon. If I had it now, I'd frame it , but there is a good chance they binned it years ago.

I was just looking at the 22.5% Sales Tax on Docket No. 11789.
Brought back memories of when I was in the watch business and because watches were considered "luxury" items they attracted 32% S/T, but spare parts were less tax.
Before GST, sales tax was a nightmare, let me tell you.

I was working on a 1960s Toyota Crown today, the fully optioned up one, the owner has the original receipts and genuine Toyota workshop manuals and parts books in mint condition.

I redone the head lights with a new fuse panel, relays and wiring.

The wiring was 100% original.

Interesting car, its a 3 speed column shift manual with an overdrive attached to the box, you can use it in 2nd and 3rd gears when above 30mp/h, no computers controlling it, its all controlled with just wires/solenoid and cuts the ignition for a split second to smoothly go into overdrive when you pull the lever.

On the back of the front seat it has controls for the AM radio so the passengers can change it, and its an auto tuning radio, from the 1960s O_o

Hi a couple of things there
Morris Oxford was a bigger version of the Morris Minor
I bought a 1952 model for 20 pounds $40 back in 1964
also the fuel prices in 1964 petrol was 4 shilings a gallon 40 cents
thats about 9 cents a litre diesel was 2 shillings a gallon 20 cents and kero was 1 shilling a gallon 10 cents
I cant tell you the cost of housing etc as I was only 17 at the time
and doing an apprentiship on VWs that year I was on 7 pounds a week $14
but I do remember the old lady buying a 3 bedroom brick veneer house
in Mooroolbark for 6 thousand pounds $12000 back in 1962

yeah, its very cool to have these old reciepts! I have now been goin through some old slides, and found a picture of this car with all the options when pretty much new! : Also the chev reciept above was for a 1932 model ex company car from T&G. Ill find a pic of this somewhere...
