Default Imported engine..

H Guys,

Looking at buying a car at the moment which has an imported engine in it.. Owner has been very forth coming and provided me with all the info I have asked so far..

Story goes that this particular engine, a 5L 302 windsor was a complete motor imported from the states out of a '04 explorer..

He has provided me with the VIN and Engine number along with pictures of them.. The engine number definately doesnt look stamped from the factory..

My concern is with import engine number, I cant seem to find any info on it to confirm its origins, and without that I am wondering if I will have headaches with registration..

Any advice from those that have experience?

Cheers,
Nik

Did they come with 5.0 in 04 ??
I don't think they stamp them like we do here ??

Yep.. So aside from that he claims its the same motor as the AU 200kw motor.. I believe after reading about explorers that this is not the case so yer now a bit unsure about it to be honest..

Same with the last two older cars I bought both numbers on their computer contradicted the ones I had written down ...so they just changed it on their side. ..works for me but not so good for history or stolen vehicles , must say I raised an eyebrow ..if it's already registered then all is good , ask for the info if no go then walk away ..

The engine will be ok to register providing it passes the emissions law of the car it's in/going into and you will need evidence to show the emissions standard it passed in the States is the equivalent (it will be as the Australian standards are straight up copies)

You may also want to check the insurance side of things as most Insurance companies will not touch anything with the word import on it. Even if the car is not an import the motor is.

I'd buy the car, use your 200kw engine and parts out of it to get the DFDFDF on the road, then part out that motor and try to recoupe some costs or keep it for parts.

If you have the documentation for the engine showing where and when it was imported and a receipt then you should be OK.
No different to fitting a crate motor to your car - crate motor would have been an import too.
