Default Internet car parts - I may have been tricked.. Sydney

Hi, It looks like I have paid for a pallet of parts from Sydney that I may never get to Perth..

Just under 2 months ago I found some parts I wanted from a body shop in Sydney. I phoned and emailed to agree on a list of what I needed, paid for the first lot, then added some more parts and also paid for that lot via direct bank deposit.

Problem; The seller seems to have 'disappeared' and I have not got any of the parts I paid for. Last contact with the seller was about 2 weeks ago, with a text about 'I'm so sorry I have been sick for a while, but now back at work'. The deal has been that seller should pack it up on a pallet, measure it up, and call a courier. (But unfortunately it looks like no progress on these last few steps..)

I have a business name and some details of the seller, but not sure if I have tracked him down yet. I spent half a day of phone investigations today to the surrounding businesses on his old address, but now I have just found his new location from searching the ABN on the ASIC database.

The latest address is at Duffy Avenue, Thornleigh NSW.
His Business name is Chicane Prestige Bodyworks.

Would any of you happen to know this panel beater named 'Paul' ?
Even better, would any of you happen to live close to this area and possibly at some point assist me with making a friendly visit there to find out the true story, to find out if I have been 'tricked' or not.

Cheers,

You did a direct deposit, contact his bank.
they won't give out privacy details, but you can instruct them to contact him to contact you.

also...you can have your bank reverse the transaction due to fraud...provided he has adequate funds left in it.

Hope it goes well for you.

next time use a credit card...easier to have a bank interested in retrieving their money instead of yours

The only way to get a bank to reverse a transaction is with a police report and a court order. Similar with a credit card.

You should have asked for someone to collect and pay for them for you. We're a friendly bunch here.

A credit card can be rolled back on several basis , none of them are difficult to discover but simply failure to supply goods suitable for the job and a simple letter of explanation will enable the roll back when discussing the matter with your bank , doing a dd is much more complicated BUT talking to your bank manager will certainly be enlightening .

Agree with you on one point, disagree with the other, from experience with a cedit card used for one million dollars transactions last year at work.

Ring the bank, they fax a merchant dispute, you reply, they ring merchant, merchant not responding then 7 days later, debit reversed...done.

which bank?
Commonwealth bank....VISA card.

Hi Guys,
I really appreciate your time and effort in replying here, and possibly driving past his business to see what is going on.

His old address is 50 Buffalo Rd. I think there is no need to go there, as I have already phoned some of the neighbour businesses there. I was told he moved several months ago. He also sent a change of address document to ASIC, (I paid $9 for an ABN report for Chicane Prestige) and found out that the new address is listed as U1 / 14 Duffy Ave. Thornleigh.
I did both payments through direct deposit into his bank account, so I don't have much more than the two deposit slips showing his account number, and some emails and phone text messages.
Since he suddenly does not respond to phone calls, texts and emails, this gives me a feeling that I may never see the parts I paid for.
Sorry I have not yet had a chance to call the neighbour businesses at the new address. Maybe they can tell me someting about 'Paul'. (I have his full name from the ASIC company report, but should probably not post it here yet until I know if Paul has a very good excuse for being about 5 weeks late with shipping my parts.
I paid several thousand $$ for the parts we are discussing here, and it were things that were not available in Perth. Looking back at this I should have insisted splitting it in several smaller shipments and only pay bit by bit, to make sure I got something, at less risk. However 'Paul' convinced me it was more economical to ship it all in one lot.

Again, thank you for all the help and suggestions.
Regards,

What a dog act.... this sort of thing should be better policed.

Hope you get your cash back, or the goods.

What have the police said? Or is this a 'civil matter'?

Hi again,
I have sent a PM to Creative, with some more details since he has offered to drive past Duffy Ave, to see if Chicane Prestige Bodyworks ('Paul') currently operates there.

This is still a 'civil' matter as I am still hoping to see a pallet of parts come my way.
Maybe I am naive, but still hoping the seller becomes 'good' again, or has another credible reason why he hasn't arranged the shipment yet.

Some days ago I had one informal phone call to 'Fair trade' / consumer protection person in NSW. She spoke with indian accent, and immediately wanted to report seller for not being a 'wrecker' if he had sold me 'auto parts'. Not very useful. I didn't send her more details..

Possibly in 2 weeks time, if this isn't resolved it is probably right to file a police report.

UPDATE: Paul just responded to a tex message. The response was;
I'm in Japan. Will be back Monday. Didn't you get my email last week? (no).
Price for pallet to Perth is $467. (agreement is that shipping was extra once he found out the size and got the quote, so this is ok).

Summary; If I believe this excuse then I may still be ok, and parts may soon be coming my way. Thanks for help for now. I will keep you updated on Monday or Tuesday. Hopefully it goes well. Cheers

How many parts?

I can possibly go with my brother to collect them and you can organise pick up from a friends workshop.

E-go are a good courier service. They have different pricing eg 25% cheaper than door to doorif u can pick it up from a depot, 25% cheaper again if you can drop it off at their depot.
That was for packages of course but there would be similar discounts will pallets I imagine

if it was me at this stage I wouldn't have him doing the freight , as it is ive always organised and paid the freight my end
options atm are as
1. have some on pick up the parts for you and help form there to either drop at freight company or to have picked up from them ,
2. keep his organised freight and do it receiver pays on pick up and he'll have to supply you a docket number
, or
3. you organise the freight company your self with them to pick up not him to deliver

still pretty rude that he never got back to you
and now he is in japan?
he may very well be in japan, but really...you dont forget to organize shipment of a pallet of car parts after someone has paid for them

makes him look bad
and here we are discussing it on a forum thinking he might be trying to do a rip job
hasnt really done himself any favors
only excuse id be accepting is if he had a serious family issue because that would be totally understandable
