Default Falcons in Sri Lanka

hey!

Recently got back from a trip to Sri Lanka. While there i noticed a few Falcons!!!

Never knew they exported them.

I saw a BA Wagon being used as a hearse, and an AU sedan.

All got away before i could get a pic, but can anyone shed any light on how they came to be in Sri Lanka

Cheers.

ex foreign diplomatic fleet?

Obviously not the hearse but that could have been imported from here or the UK as there's a mob over there that turns aussie fords into hearses.

Sri Lanka allows used cars gifted from overseas family members to be imported with very low duty.

Saw a 1996 EF falcon wagon for sale in Malaysia. Ad said it was the only one in the whole country. Would be very expensive to register, roughly $3000 aud annually due to having a 3984cc motor.

Shows there is / was export potential for the Falcon.
Luxury car to them and heaps cheaper than European equivalents.

Definitely. Ecoboost 2.0 would have been a big hit in Malaysia/Singapore. All visiting relatives and friends were impressed with the Falcon. And having a 2.0 motor option means having a reasonable road tax.
