Not sure which topic to put this under so here it is. Mods please move if you feel it appropriate.
Hi all. Have a look at this. It's either stolen, a hoax, or the seller is a complete idiot. Does anyone recognise the car? Probably all three. Why would you say $10,000, no MORE, no less http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/1974-XB-G...item4acf9d4096 How long do you think this ad will last? Place your bets....

If she was that stupid that she'd let it go for ten grand "no more, no less" then she wouldn't deserve to be married to anyone. She certainly wouldn't be very attentive as to to an asset's value. Maybe she'll sell the house for $20K? Why would you say NO MORE?
Of course it's a scam. I'm more interested in whether anyone knows or recognises the car. It's probably a file photo from Google Images.

the contact method is scam all the way but she has good feedback and has sold things like dirt bikes and fridges and the feedback has been left over a long time which would mean its genuine or the ebay account has been hacked, contact one of the buyers from the feedback list and see if the sellers name matches the email and so-on
just set up a fake email account and offer to pay cash on inspection and ask for the vin and eng no. for a revs check by the way i found my old bullet ski boat on a sales site forsale in cairns and i was living in sydney

The older and more cantankerous I get, the more I realise that it's a civic duty to remove money from the pockets of idiots. The TAB has been doing it for years, as have all the pokies venues and casinos globally. It's hard to be angry with scammers getting in on the action, when people are so incredibly stupid that they fall for this stuff.

Emailed to see what reply I would get. This is the direct words form the email.
"Hi, Thank you for contacting me about my '74 Falcon XB GT Coupe that I have for sale. This car is in great shape (70,590 kms, VIN# JG66PJ 95108K). The car has no electrical or mechanical problems, damages or hidden defects. Hasn't been involved in any accident. It has a clear title and the total price is $10,000 including delivery and handling. The car is now in Darwin, NT and is ready to be delivered to its buyer with all the documents. The financial part will be managed by eBay, which means that you will have 5 days inspection period before committing to buy the vehicle and a refund policy is included. The deal will go strictly according to eBay rules and policy. There are no other costs on this transaction through eBay. If you have interest in buying my Falcon XB GT, please email me your complete name and delivery address. I will forward all the info to eBay and then let them handle all the details. Thank you, Joanne Lisbon" I am going to ask if I can get a friend in Darwin to have a look at it, see what response comes back. |

Took them 3 hours to answer original email and only a couple of minutes to the follow up email. Must be after a quick sale!
"Please take a few moments and read my email carefully, I know it is long, but I will explain all the details about the car and the transaction. Because I can't do this transaction personally I have setup this sale with eBay so this deal must go through them. I'm very busy with my job and my daughter. Unfortunately my daughter is in hospital and this is the reason why I need to sell my car on internet in order to make it happen soon. eBay will secure the funds until you get the car. I will send the title along with the car. You will have 5 days from the time you receive the car to inspect it and decide if you want to keep it or not. If you are satisfied with it, you need to confirm it to eBay so that they can unblock the funds and send it to me. If, for any reason, you don't like the car (is not the case you will see) all the returning fees will be supported by me and your money will be fully refunded immediately as you confirm to them that you don't want the car. There will be no costs for delivery or handling on you, I am taking care of that. Therefore, if you are determined in buying the car, please send me an email with your complete name, address and I will also use a phone number to communicate easier. Thank you, Joanne" |

Maybe we should pass the hat around - see if we can raise $10k so Joanne can keep her coupe.
I still feel sorry for the Nigerian prince working at sea wanting to buy a car for his father - no one seems to take him seriously. |

Not buying it. Send an AFF investigator around to confirm the car is real.

There's another one on there, very similar, same colour, looks legit listing & it's only at just over $14,000, but it hasn't met the reserve yet.
Not claiming to be a GT though, (Fairmont) in the listing, but kinda does in the title. Last edited by cobramania; 30-01-2014 at 08:01 PM. Reason: Edit information. |

There's a couple of dead giveaways in that wording I reckon. It was either written by an American or copied from an American ad.
Show me an Aussie that describes a classic car as being "in great shape". That's an American term. Also, when was the last time you concerned yourself with a "clear title" for a local vehicle - another Americanism. Bloody scammers!! Russ |

I've reported about a half a dozen scams just like this to ebay
we all know that its a scam and we all know about a fool and their money parting ways but what I get concerned about is a young kid being sucked in to something like this imagine a 19 or 20 year old kid that has saved 10 K working part time at a super market for 5 years getting scammed its happened before - not with an xb coupe but other cars that's why I always report scams I hate those mother ******* |

I was buying a nissan patrol with the same type of deal, they also said it was in Darwin but from his deceased grandfather. It was listed in Darwin also, but as soon as I said I do fly in fly out through Darwin and can I have a look when passing through, guess what no more response and listing removed lol.

There must be something about Darwin they like.
This is a reply I got last week after advertising my Barge on Gumtree. I am buying this for my first son who just graduated on top of his class at Charles Darwin University in NT ,He studied Building Design & Architecture. I want it to be the perfect graduation gift for him and am making it a surprise package ,Does it have any history I should be aware of? and why are you selling if you don't mind my asking. I don't mind adding an extra $100.00 for you just to take down the posting..I am already in talks with freighters that will handle the pickup and delivery .I will really appreciate if you can email more info Due to the nature of my work i am a very busy man working all day,am a sailor am presently on-board, i don't have access to my bank account online as am not with my credit card details here but i have my ANZ bank account link up with my PayPal account so I will be paying you through PayPal to your nominated bank account or better still is if you have a PayPal account ,please get back to me with your BSB and account details or PayPal account so i can proceed with the payment and contact the courier agent who will come to pick it up and deliver it in NT for my son .Await your reply .
