What to bring in with car from North America.

I am importing a car from North America [has a large boot] and wondering what I can purchase and transport in the boot for resale here to offset some of my shipping costs....any sensible suggestions.

You might want to check with the importer, but generally they don't allow additional items to be transported in the vehicle while being shipped.

I have imported six cars from USA and always filled the boot (and one time the whole car) with parts.

Check to see if there is a big convention on at the time, like a camping or fishing show. Pack the car with new gear that hasn't come out here yet. (lighter and smaller the better)

Even better, get good contacts and end up doing that for a living.

You do need to check with the shipper, some might refuse to ship extra.

Theft/ lack of insurance could also be a problem. You can easily arrange insurance for the car, but I doubt it would cover stuff in your boot.

Beware of customs.
Generally if you buy something o/s for under a $1k, they let it pass. More than that (possibly in aggregate) and you get stung for GST and anny other applicable taxes.

I'd say the exact opposite.
Look at stuff that has low availability in Australia and where the weight makes shipping expensive.

One option might be to advertise on the applicable forums for people who are chasing parts for their American Classics. The parts are much cheaper in the US, but shipping small lots is a killer.

Maybe even a blower kit

You will have to declare and supply the American invoices for the additional parts and pay any duties and GST on them when they arrive.
They will also have to be removed from the car when it is inspected/cleaned for quarantine

Get them at swapmeets/auctions cheap over there; sell at a premium here.

I remember reading somewhere advice that said unless it's car parts...and sometimes even then only parts for that particular vehicle and not brand new boxed up stuff which would require duty...you can run into all sorts of hassles.

That's...not as silly as it sounds. Disassembled, as long as the car has a big boot, everything except the frame (and maybe even that would fit) would go in, maybe the wheels wrapped up and put in the back seat.

I'll tell you what IS worth a lot of money...old Honda 50cc Monkey Bikes. Collectors here go wild for them, and prices can be stupid for even unrestored ones.
