Ford build numbers/unusual colour

Hey everyone!,
I have an XD with an unusual paint code, I've covered the topic in post classic trying to find out what it is. My thoughts are... Ford doesn't usually do one off paint colours as the set up and interruption of a busy assembly plant just can't justify building only one car with a certain option, particulalrly a paint colour. My XD is a 5 08 81 build XD 351 4 speed JG23YA S pac Falcon with the Trim code B2 but the paint code is Y0455, its a dark blue with very fine metallic flake in it. I have seen the Corporate blue code Y045 from Xa XB lists but don't yet know if it is a metallic?. Going back to the theory that you would think that any paint colur run of cars would surely be 50-100 to make it worthwhile on the assembly line, do any other members have an XD painted with this colour code on their VIN plate?. Anyone that has I'd like to know if they have ever repainted their car and if they found a formula for it on any chart or with a paint supplier, I'm having mine read from under the rear seat and a couple of other protected areas with a spectrophotometer which will give me the formula to have a batch mixed up but it doesn't solve the riddle of why the colour doesn't appear on any charts within the automotive paint suppliers industry.

Fairly sure that's Corporate Blue? I have a spray pack with that code on it but it certainly isn't a metallic. Any ideas who the car was delivered to?

Back in the 80's (and probably earlier) you could order what was known as an oso paint job on a new Falcon. You just had to be prepared to wait for it.

Y045 Corporate blue, this is Y0455 and is definately dark blue with fine metallic so not corporate blue!. This is good in a way, if it turns out to be a one of car!.

Contact Ford Customer Centre, they might be able to tell yo who the original dealer was and they may have further records.

Well, it turns out it is a solid colour, the metallic version had been a cheapy respray at sometime in its life. Corporate Blue is confirmed!. One of two XD Falcons ever painted in that colour!. Special Order car sold from dealer in West Sydney.. can't find out who the first owner of it was, wish there was a way of doing that!..
I have sold it to a collecter in Newcastle, stripped and blasted, came back with great result, only a few areas to repair!.

The block casting date was a mystery, one fairly knowledgeable guy here in WA had a good look at it and we came to the conclusion it was an earlier casting than most XD's had in it but it appeared to be the original, untampered with black XD engine. When it was given a pre-clean prior to full strip and rebuild the new owner found this stamped on the rear of the block!.. bloody hell!.. awesome find!.

Nope, this car was only ever a licensed road car. Sydney West was where she was sold from, ended up in wheatbelt WA, now in Newcastle being restored.

I wasn’t suggesting that it was Murray’s group C Falcon, but maybe the 2nd one in that colour.

Oh, right... I did find a photo of one that might have been its twin, plus in an original Ford brochure there is a blue GL with a light coloured interior that could be it... as the letter from Ford says, 2 painted in that colour, both 351/4 speed/LSD tramp rod cars (that bit about both having the single tramp rod is a guess) different trim codes and options is what separates them.

Mick Webb is based in Melbourne, so it must of ventured south for some reason. Maybe you could contact him for some information about it’s original owner. Even though you have moved it on to a new custodian, it sounds as though you still have an interest in its history.

I do have an interest, the owner will too!..

Hmmmm, more likely he built the engine and then it was mated to the car on the assembly line. Stamps say 2 months before the car was built so not done afterward.

It is actually pretty dark.. it may have been!
