Default insurance for modified vehicle

MKII G6Et - 20" wheels, shockworks adj dampers and built motor
Made a claim 2yrs ago after someone backed into my car.
No license suspensions

AAMI seems expensive
Budget direct and RAA wont cover the car
Im in SA so NRMA doesn't cover here

other options?

I agree Franco, i hate making those calls. But they are probably the cheapest and offer decent agreed values, although i hear not great to deal with when making claims.
Choice of repairer is also something for us enthusiasts which offers a bit of peace of mind.

Too many variables for modified and unique cars to be able to have an automated quoting on line system. Easier to talk it through!!

Online quotes also can be PITA or B.S. as most times they will require you to ring them for quote price, this I have experienced myself many times over.
These days easy to just ring them.

Ended up calling shannons and went with them.
My F6 was insured through them initially, then went with RAA because they were so much cheaper. But G6Et ended up being around the same RAA was

I was declined by Shannons as didn't have a garage!!

Bas'tards......ha. But I could understand.

At least when I claimed on another Insurer when it was totalled (technically my fault) they paid me out on agreed value. Was heavily modified and I didn't list a thing as always declined so I just winged it.

Don't take my bad advice.......I was lucky.

Worked for Just Car Insurance back in the day, I've got heavily modified cars that were insured with JCI at the time using only online forms and I never had an issue when I claimed.

Check boxes and comments section is all that's required.

Last time I spoke to someone on the phone they put my registration number in wrong which generated more phone calls

Shannons for me too.

And the phonecalls I have had to have with them have been pleasant, easy, efficient and each time the result has been positive.
Highly recommend them.

Same here, and claiming wasn’t an issue either

And it’s good to talk to someone on the other end of the phone who understands what your mods are.

Shannon’s are great until you know more than they do and start questioning their policy, I wouldn’t insure a skate board with them.

Both my daily and Fairlane are insured with shannons.. I've had to make a at fault claim with my old car - was pretty easy from crash to pay out was I think 10 days.. Whoever I insure the fairlane with has to have a buy back option and own choice of repairer.

I've heard both great and shocker stories about Shannons.

Might just be lucky or unlucky......

Like wise, but all the shockers I’ve heard have come from people I think are a little shady, my experience over the last 12 years and 3 claims is I’m not taking my special stuff anywhere else, and I have my house insured with them aswell

So a panel beater with 30 years experience and a wife with the same experience in insurance who was a founding member of Just Car Insurance is a little shady. Your entitled to your opinion...

Ok sport

The magic word in my post you failed to read is I’ve I would have thought a moderator would be a little skilled in the black art of reading the post

Just like I’m reading yours when you tell me I’m entitled to my an opinion, and I understand that this is just your experience

I’ve never taken out a just car policy, I didn’t like the quote experience when I did a comparison years ago (seemed very wooden and black and white, kind of like insuring a white Camry in that they weren’t interested in the car it’s self) they may have changed or it may have been a one off experience with a poor team member but I never bothered since, and to my knowledge don’t exist anymore anyway.

I am in SA also.

I have a couple of toys.....

I have a SS Commodore which I have fitted an HTV2300 Harrop supercharger & loads of other performance & handling modifications.
(All disclosed & listed on my insurance policy.)

I also have a convertible Corvette Stingray.

I have them both insured with Shannons for reasonable money, very happy with them.

Shannons pizzed me off few years ago by arguing with me and saying I was lying about having a limited slip diff option in a front wheel drive car.

Ended up insuring with Australian pensioners insurance cause (a) I didn't do many k's (b) no longer worked full time (I was doing 60-80 hours a week...now only 40...LOL and (c) over 50

All boxes ticked...

I went the other way. I had my 3 cars insured with APIA, made a couple of 'not at fault' claims which were finalised quickly with no dramas, but when the agreed value dropped and the premiums increased, they suggested that I go with Shannons.
Haven't had to make a claim yet, but happy with agreed value and premiums.

The acid test is when you make a claim.

Do not EVER insure with YOUI...they troll all your facebook and forum posts to wiggle out of anything possible....

This thread I should have responded more closely to.

Reason is I think it's the assessor not the Insurer that is really the key.

I might be wrong but the Insurer doesn't even see the vehicle so really it doesn't matter who you insure with if you have mods listed or otherwise? (a lot of mods aren't legal anyway even if listed)
