Default Find the cheapest fuel in your area.

Since fuel prices are nuts, I thought I'd share a site I use to see who has the cheapest fuel in the area. It also comes in app form for your phone too.

https://petrolspy.com.au

I know that members probably use it or something similar, but I hope it's of some use to someone who wasn't aware of sites/apps like that.

Cheers!

Just checked out prices in melb and country areas... seems like Melbourne is being completely ripped off. Close to 180cpl as low as 155cpl, country areas that dont have a Melbourne base are around 150 to 160cpl. Talk about collusion and where are the ACCC? Toothless fairys.

Ever since Professor Allan Fels stepped down from being chairman of ACCC in 2002 that organisation has been useless.
In the governments eyes price rises means more revenue from GST.

I've noticed these apps are usually right but not always.

NSW has a government app which I believe is compulsory for fuel stations to keep their price up to date.
I use it all the time. It's good to check before you head out for a decent drive because there might be an area on the way that has good fuel prices.

I think the word "cheap" can't be anywhere near fuel prices at the moment.

Least Expensive maybe.

For BEST PRICING IN YOUR AREA in NSW, this works great, as (I am 90% certain) Service Stations are legally required to update pricing every 30 minutes, and you can run this off your Computer or Mobile Phone App.

This must be the only Government initiative that actually works !!

What annoucement?!

Fuelspy, motormouth are just some sites which can be used for comparison. I don't drive out of my way to fill up, but occasionally I check if the area I'm heading towards has a good deal on.

Other ways to save is using the Sleven fuel lock app, carsales offers 4c off per litre if you submit your odo reading to your account (only have to do it once and it lasts forever).

I don’t bother shopping around for fuel. Costco is consistently 10-15 cents per litre cheaper for diesel than anyone else and it’s not far from me.
98 Ron it cheaper again

Costco is the red price.

During the first COVID lockdowns, unleaded went to sub $1.0/L and diesel was pretty cheap too.

Problem with petrolspy is bullshit information, I started taking photos of our three local servo price boards and putting it on the local social media pages, and the rip-off local servo got wind of it and lowered price by 20c/L.

Every time they pull their 20-30c/L more than the next town servo bullshit, I go take photos and put it up on the local community groups to show the locals that they're being torn a new rectum and to let the local servo owner know we're onto his bullshit.

They count on people not knowing about the next town along because its heading away from Melbourne, not toward it, and they're the only servo for ~30km.

We need a government fuel app like what NSW has, an official regulated source of pricing information, petrolspy is bullshit that servos put in fake news prices with.

In Oakleigh South near our former office there is a small Ampol Station that is out of the way. It was always the cheapest in the area for LPG.My car is LPG only so I didn'f worry about Diesel or Petrol.
I would check Petrol Spy and sometimes see it being listed as more expensive than other stations in the area but I would drive there to fill up and the Price was cheaper.
I believe the nearby Stations were putting in False prices.

Its the oldest trick in the book, our rip-off local servo owner plays fake news pricing on the other servo and his own.

Well don't want to be a hater here mate,
But, here in Adelaide I use it when I'm getting down to say half a tank and check the price on Petrol spy. It's never let me down in the last 4 months. Always exactly what the Petrolspy app says it tis. The last time I filled up, it was $2.15 for ULP, yes, ULP (not PULP) everywhere, except 2 servos. Both the petspy servos had PULP for $1.78. True story mate

All well and good in the cities, but doesn't work here when the next servo is 30km down the road and the owner of the local servo keeps putting in bullshit prices on petrolspy on the other servo 7km up the road heading away from Melbourne.

Made me laugh my local servo was 30c/L more expensive than a servo in a town with 200 people in the middle of nowhere, 70km in the wrong direction

Costco is the red price.
I have been told that it is not unusual for a Petrol Station(s) near a Costco to drop their prices while Costco is open and then raise them when they close.

Sth Australia has similar legislation to NSW that fuel prices are uploaded to a government database within 30 minutes of price change. Fuel price apps then use this information.

7 eleven app. Allows a fuel price to be locked in for a number of days. It works out the lowest price in your current region to get this price.
This can be gamed. When I travel up to Glenroy region in Melbourne I lock in the price, then drive home to south east suburbs and use the locked price. Easy to get 5c a litre off. I have seen up to 10c
Petrol Spy can be used to see if this is going to work.

Don't need an app for my area, the local Apco servo is always one of the cheapest in Melbourne West, only problem is waiting in the non-ending queues.

Being a user information sourced platform, things like this can happen. And its also why I've never used Petrol Spy. Personally found it to be the most unreliable POS information site out there. Always wrong.

Luckily QLD government has a centralised database that is updated by the servos themselves with heavy penalties for false information. Places like RACQ draw from this info and publish it in an app. Makes it very easy to find fuel.

Right now its $1.65 to $1.66 a litre in Hervey Bay. The local Freedom has a deal with the RSL. Show your RSL card and get 6c a litre off. Every 4 weeks they do a super discount of 13/c a litre off. Have gotten fuel for just under $1.50 during these promotions. Makes me feeel like its 10 years ago.

But the interesting comparison is always Brisbane. Right now its around $2 a litre. Unless its around the Pearl Energy in Deagon, where is $1.70 a litre with the locals offering similar pricing.

I go to Costco regularly and currently, E10 is $1:66.7
My atmo four cylinders run fine on it.

I figure 40cpl over 40 litre fill means ~$16 saving each fill up vs $2/litre
So about nine or ten fills pays for my Costco annual membership
and that works for me but maybe not other people.
