Didn't Bana or Green have a 7.3 in their cars? Not sure is they were force fed?
What a monster!

I just wish they were more readily available here. Only real choice is a bloody expensive crate motor. Getting one out of a wrecked super duty really isn't an option down under.

I thought they were about $10k which isnt that bad. God I would love that in the ZF instead of rebuilding the thing...trans and diff wont be happy though.

A stock version in the ZF with the 10sp Auto would make an awesome cruiser. |

Very nice engine, just a shame ford didn't do these earlier and shoved them in everything so we could have had our own version of the LS

You said it...can't get bored watching it..
Thinking out aloud,...If I wanted to replace the Territory with any new rear wheel drive biased SUV I would need at least $40+ on top of the trade in they might offer if I was lucky...and using the better half's comments on coming home after a shop..."look babe, I saved $30K after throwing Godzilla into our Tezza..." Pretty Epic thing... Though anything with Frank from Dandy Engines involved normally is pretty epic... His 6 Second Street Xw is a fave of mine...

I'm old enough to remember the original Harrop's Howler...sounds like not much has changed there

Man I hope we see more of these retro fits into earlier Fords, the 7.3 is just so impressive in older vehicles but also perhaps, a Territory? I know it looks expensive but the 7.3 is one of those Ford engines that enthusiasts have been craving for ages in the US. This engine is barely bigger than a GM LS but offers a good capacity increase with the strength to take a supercharger.

I can't explain why but I've got the MC Hammer song in my mind...."I Like Big BLOCKS"...

is 4.53” and the deck height 9.62” so barely bigger than a 351 Windsor. I wonder how things would have gone if the Cleveland and M block had been given that 4.53” bore spacing instead of 4.38”. |

"Big block" is more or less a marketing term to differentiate a few lines of engines in the 50's-70's.
The term referenced the physical size of the engine, not the displacement, so yeah bigger bore spacing played a part For reference, a 351 windsor is a smallblock, but could be punched to 427...yet the 390 was a bigblock..

Modern thinking and casting techniques have made that possible, we live in a great time. Imagine that Windsor with 4.53” bore spacing and 4.28” max bore…now you’re talking. Consider the time when the FEs came out in 1958, by 1960, there was 332, 352, 390 while the only Windsors were 221 and 260. Growth in capacity came but depended on better casting reliability and less core shift, the Windsors, Cleveland’s and M blocks were always going to win, especially with more compact design and greater efficiency. With a similar siamesed block as the aftermarket Windsor, the FE can get 4.44” bore and take a 4.5” stroke(BBM block) Last edited by jpd80; 27-05-2022 at 07:07 PM. |

Who remembers when forum sponsor FTG did a 5.4L 4V Territory. Wonder if it'll fit in Ranger? |

so yes, this bad boy will fit in a lot of places and as I said above, the XA’s bonnet looks to be in tact… And if a Coyote fits in a Ranger (just), you can bet this beast will go in much easier. Brian Wolfe was Ford Program Director on the 7.3 Godzilla project, he’s also a racer with a lot of 351 Windsor experience, it’s obvious that he developed this engine with two purposes, a truck engine and a performance engine hiding in plain sight.
