Default service manual scam

Has anyone heard of a scam where they keep your service manual when you get a service done?

I went looking for mine a month or so after I had a service and couldn't find it. I can't be sure, but I can't think why I would have taken it out of my glove box.

One freind said it happened to them and another mechanic freind of the family said it was common practice.

Apparently they either put them in reworked cars or cars that havn't a complete service history.

I'm pretty ****ed, because it was a country car with a complete service history.

No but I've had two company cars where they forgot to put it back and lost it, one I got back a few weeks later, the other one 3 months when the dealership found it and gave me a call. One car was a commode the other a BA. Give the service department a call and yell at them. I make a point of checking that the book is there when I pick the car up now.

I would check the book is there, only for the fact of making sure they stamped it as being serviced, getting them to stamp the book after the fact can be a real pain.

Yeah I hope your right. I did call them and the girl running interference on the sevice booking desk said it wasn't there.

I'm going to tripple check at home, then write a letter to the GM of the dealership. See what happens
