Question RIM Cleaners

Has anyone got a product that prevents brake dust sticking to their rims. I'm thinking that there must be a silicon spray that stops the dust from sitting on the rims that hosing washer away?

Silicone spray would make it worse.

If you can be bothered using paint polish and wax on mags helps keep them clean. It your alloys are polished already (mag polish) then there is not much more to do?

seriously if u wash them once a week you shouldnt have a problem, now if you are to lazy to do that well mabey you should not give a rats *** about your rims cause you certainly dont care about your cars paint work. Dust car increases the chance of somebody scratching your paint work.

Default seal

wash them every week with a soft car shampoo then clay to make sure all contaminants - fallout, acid rain, metal filings etc are not on there, then seal with a paint sealant
2-3 coats is best

my favourites - klasse, zaino, menzerna FMJ
klasse is acrylic and so is very strong protectant
it's available in 500ml size from some online stores but 1 litre is available for almost the same price
It can be used in spray and wipe form, wipe on and wipe off 30 seconds later or wipe on , leave for 2-24 hours then remove and 24 hours later apply another coat
to ensure best durability you should apply at least three coats when using the spray and wipe method

Try owning a BA with the replacement brake pads from Ford, almost a daily job!

I bought some cheapo mag cleaner from Crazy Clarks (GoLo), about $2 for a bottle, works well, spray on and hose off.

Don't use silicone based products - it attracts the dust and dirt and grime and sticks to it. Trust me - I own a car detailing business!

Well said tim28, the common silicone tire dressings are shockers for drying rubber but also splattering all over wheels and paint which attracts lots of crud
Klasse does not contain silicone

Washing your wheels weekly will prevent galvanic corrosion
Meguiars have excellent mag and tyre cleaners, just don't use any on wheels that have paint or wheel sealants on them, stick with car shampoo/conditioner
dry with a separate drying towel or chamois

Should also add any overspray onto your brake rotor will make your next stop a very long one....silicone spray will attract dirt/grime faster.

if you follow mr jucy's advice and seal them, 2 - 3 coats being best, you won't have to wash them for at least a week, sometimes 2 weeks

There is a metal disk that can go between the brake disk and the rim that can prevent thte dust built at repco or somewhere like that. Or just clean your car more often!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I saw the Michelin spray at Big W today. Looked alright, but I wash my car every weekend.

My biggest problem is that whoever put the tyre black on it before I bought it, slopped it over the edge of the rims as well. I don't know what to use that will take it off, but not damage the clear coat on them.

Feathers just try a little car wash on a sponge next time you wash your car ( gently on the affected area's ) or you could try as Matt suggests some clay bar gently.

Exactly right.

Just wash them every 6-8 weeks and use a lot of elbow grease.

I find with cleaners the Armour all product isn't too great, but the Eagle brand from Supercheap is great. Damn shame they support Murphy though....
