for the next falcon why is it currently called Orion? is that the name of the platform or something.
To me Orion is a less than exiting european ford brand thats been around since ages ago and it sounds a little too much like the new Toyota Aurion (exactly the same if you pronounce them both like i do). I hope they are not aiming for the 'international market', that never works for motor companies. |

It's just a code name. Like Barra and Blackwood were. And Orion is heaps older than Aurion.

Was Blackwood the AU codename?
They need cooler names, like scooby-doo or something. Imagine the Ford engineers having a top secret conversation in a local pub.. |

They're just knicknames used internally by Ford employees eg. Territory Turbo was called "Hammer head". The new models do have more formal code names so that the international Ford divisions know what is being talked about, however in the fine Aussie tradition we like to use knicknames. Hence Barra for the BA, Copperhead and now Orion for the next new Falcon.

The same could be asked why did Ford chose the name Raptor for the Territory project? It is just a internal code name.

We would refer to it by the model name (eg. BA, BF) but we don't know what that will be. We could guess that it would be the BG, but we could be very wrong. When the AU was out and Barra was on the way, everyone were waiting for the AV Falcon. Instead the Barra became the BA. So don't worry. The Falcon is not going to be renamed Orion

Kind of continuing on from a previous post, call their projects something cool, like
"Castle Greyskull" "Thundara" "Eternos" "Skeletor" "Hordak" "Yaaaaaaaaaabletttttttttttttt!!!!!!!!!!" "Ripping Undies" "Bargearse" "Shitscared" "Ariloulaleelay" "Sa-Matra" Lots of inspiration from sources, but hey, better than naming their projects after woods. How about "treated pine" in the future? |

some more:
"Operation Lionbait" "the evil black secret basement project at ford" "damit why was barra so good, now we have to go weird and post-retro-modern-cubist" or just "killer" jk :P

FFS the turbo was never named Seagull it was just GULL!! I think refering to a gull being a scavenger and a turbocharger a scavenging pump.
There was also E265 - Territory Hawk - EL Kestrel - EL comercial\ute Eagle - AU Barra - BA Gull - BA turbo Copperhead - BF Hammerhead - TT

As for ORION, I prefer to think it comes from Greek mythology, thus;

As far as Orion is concerned, on any clear summer night go outside and look up. Orion is a group of stars that dominates the sky. (orion the hunter.. in this case hunting toyotas and holdens. |

Yeah it is pronounced that way.
I am rather happy to find out that Orion liked to dine on pussys....whoops I mean lions... Same thing when you are talking about that car that has one on it and their drivers. Aaah EA26 wasn't that mysterious...... Hopefully Orion gives a clue as to the kind of marketing ford will take....bring in some ford motorsport (us) stuff into the fold to...... |

Some people think it's pronounced the same as Aurion, but it's Orion, as in the Orion's Belt. |
