Hi all, only been on here a week but really enjoying it, keep up the good work. Just looking at buying a toy at present and am leaning toward a Fairlane or LTD. I'm not in the $ league for a genuine GT or the like so am looking at a few options for a spare car/Sunday cruiser. I want something tidy and original so all I really have to do is lower it and fit big late model wheels/tyres and maybe exhaust etc. Not looking for a full bare metal resto. I'd like to have something appealing and with a bit of future resale and desirability. The short list reads LTD P5 P6 FC FD or Landau (unlikely to find a clean one), Fairlane ZH ZJ ZK or possibly a good ZD at the right price, Fairmont ESP XD XE. Have had an ESP and FD years back and nostalgia draws me to them but gut feeling tells me that the FD may never materialize as a desirable investment. I'm guessing a ZD would if a clean one could be found. Open to all suggestions, look forward to your ideas. Thanks

I like the look of ZL fairlane. big, comfortable, 6 cylinder economy, looks nice lowered, power windows, steering, air con, reasonably cheap to buy. from memory there was a decent looking one on e-bay a month or two ago and they were only after about 2,500. so there are some good ones out there

Thanks fargo but I should have specified that it must be V8, preferably 351 but would happily settle for 302 in the right car. I love and own modern 6's but cant beat the old Cleveland in the old schoolers.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but I quite like the '66 Galaxies. They seem like pretty good value for what they are.

I just picked up a ZF myself. Personally my pick would be the P5 LTD or a Landau, love those hidden lights lol. What about the big 70s Galaxies and yank LTDs? Lots of car for your money.

THe older the car ususally the more expensive it is and if it has 2 doors ..... Landau. ...then double it! THe ZJ on onwards would be the cheapest to but but who knows whats happening with the prices down the track! Love them all though and look tough as restored well!
The "X" series LTD's are starting to move in price as they are getting harder to get, again ZD being the most expensive then up to std P6 LTD being a bit cheaper. Its a matter of how much you want to put in once bought! You should find a damn good ZJ onwards for that money, pay the same for a P5 or 6 and you will have to spend more to get it looking good ..... in most cases. Also a matter if you want a 6 or 8. All pre 79's are 351 LTD's with a few 6 Fairlanes around, but not many. ZJ onwards there are heaps of cheap 6's around I prefer the older pre P6 Fairlanes and LTD's but each to their own. My P5 is also going on the market as I want to do other things!!! | [/url] |

My pick would be a P5 LTD, or a ZH Fairlane. Both are within your budget.
In fact, if you spent $5k, you'd find a VERY good ZH. But I am partial to them having owned one before I got my wagon. They're horribly undervalued and if you get an original 351 you also get the disc brake 9" diff, lots of electric toys (which would work if you spent $5k buying it) and massive road presence.

Hmmm still a hard decision. A good FD 351 is probably the best to drive but who knows if anyone will be wanting them down the track. The ZD is probably the best investment but also the most crude to live with, and somewhere in the middle I guess lies a tidy P6 monarch/towncar.

P5 LTD, P5 LTD, P5 LTD ... sweet ...
I already own two Barges (1969 Dodge Phoenix 4-door hardtop and 1970 Plymouth Fury III convertible), but I'd have a P5 any day!! |

Yes, the P5 probably could look slicker than a P6 with it's concealed lights etc. P.S. Like your Javelin, one of the underrated and forgotten 70's muscle machines.

Yep Fairlane thats the one. What are your thoughts on the price? To me if it is as goo din the metal as the pics it is good buying. I'm trying to avoid a resto if possible so hopefully the paint is ok

I'll see how the Sydney one works out first but will definitely remember that one. Do you think that buying a Towncar or Monarch over a standard one makes much difference in the desirability stakes?
